Excerpt from The Incest Diaries...

They put my clothes in a black garbage bag and took
me to the police station, where they asked a million
questions, about the hickeys and how it is at home.
Then my dad was arrested and put in the county jail
and could stay there until a trial.

I know what a trial is. My favorite movie is A Few
Good Men, and Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson have a
trial. Me and Daddy have the video and watch it all
the time.

--”I want the truth!”
--”You can’t handle the truth!”

That’s my favorite part. You’re always supposed to
tell the truth. I would like to be a lawyer when I
grow up, because I like the truth.

Now things are different.

I don’t understand.

You know what? I miss my daddy. He didn’t mean to
hurt me. I know he’s sorry.
